3 Sentence Summary:

In order to survive Honor flees her abusive husband and goes into hiding, running from place to place. When she finally meets Helen she starts to feel like maybe she has found a place to stay, but when her grandson Fox shows up she’s ready to flee again. When Fox realizes what Honor has been running from he is determined to protect her no matter the cost, even when her husband finds her again.

Why I recommend it:

First let me say that I am a DV survivor and while everyone’s experience is different, to me this book showed a raw and realistic look at DV and SV. The first part of this book is dark, really f**king dark. Honor’s husband is abhorrent and you feel like you’re gripping the edge of your seat waiting for her to escape. Despite the very dark topics this book covers, what shines through is the strength and resilience Honor possesses. She refuses to break or give up and she finds just how strong she truly is.

What was so real to me were the beautiful people that came along to help Honor whether they knew her or not. Fox has always been a protector and when he finds Honor at his Grandmother’s house his protective instincts kick in, for both his Grandmother and Honor. I loved that when Fox comes along he isn’t there as a savior, he wants Honor to see her own strength and helps her overcome her fears. This is a beautifully written story that made me laugh, cry, rage and smile.
