Variation by Rebecca Yarros is a second chance, fake dating romance full of angst, family and secrets. The story follows Hudson and Allie who meet as teenagers and become best friends, but when tragedy strikes 15months later everything falls apart. Fast forward 10years and they are both in town again and Hudson's niece is desperate to meet Allie, and of course he can't refuse her.
I loved the character growth in Hudson and Allie and the twists and secrets in the story kept me captivated. Yarros writes such incredibly complex and well thought out characters and the family members and friends play a big part in this book. The relationships between Allie and her family/friends and Hudson's family/friends were so beautifully and honestly written, including the toxic relationships. There are characters I wanted to scream at or throat punch (siblings can be the worst) and others that I hope Yarros writes a happily ever after for.
